New Management Objectives
for Todmorden Moor

We are drawing up a new Development Plan to take us on to the next stage. The Management Objectives are these:-
- To maintain and enhance the peat moorland and wetland habitats so as to maximise biodiversity.
- To increase public information about the geology and ecology of the moorland by seeking SEGI or RIGS designation.
- To work to protect the grazing land from off-roading, illegal tipping, and any other inappropriate use of the Common Land.
- To improve vehicle access for the disabled, and to re-establish old, and create new, footpaths and circular walks.
- To maintain the special, quiet, and open nature of the moorland.
- To improve the safety and appearance of the old mine and quarry areas.
- To record the history of the old mines, drawing on the experience of local ex-miners.
- To work with appropriate partners on trial plots for mine and quarry restoration.
- To provide information about the Common Land, its wildlife, history, and geology through the production of interpretive materials.
- To support environmental education for all, and encourage school visits and guided walks.
- To encourage local people of all ages and backgrounds to be actively involved in the implementation of this plan.
- To work as a partnership with the Commoners, CMBC, amenity groups, the Steward for the Manor of Rochdale, and other interested groups and organisations to implement this plan.
